First Class Services Rides PPG-Finished Truck to
"Big-Rig Build-Off" Victory

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – May 28, 2008 –
Randy Stroup, president and CEO of First Class Services, Lewisport, KY, was the winning custom truck builder in the 4th annual Stars and Stripes “Big Rig Build-Off” truck beauty contest at the Mid-America Trucking Show held in Louisville at the Kentucky Exposition Center. Stroup said, “We put four-and-a-half months of custom work into this truck inside and out. When it was time for painting, we wanted something that would really stand out in the crowd of beautiful trucks that would be at the show. So we decided to use PPG’s Vibrance candy colors.” Stroup’s truck, a 1986 “359” Peterbilt 63' Flat Top Sleeper, appropriately named “First in Class,” caught the attention of the judges. The truck was finished with PPG’s gleaming Vibrance Collection® Liquid Crystal Candy Apple Red and Burnt Orange colors on top of Delfleet® Evolution primers and sealers top-coated with F3905 clearcoat. The paint was supplied through PPG distributor Gipe Autocolor of Owensboro, KY.

Greg Boarman, First Class Services paint shop manager, adds, “Putting these colors together created an unbelievable finish. The colors were beautiful in any kind of light, but simply amazing in sunlight. The truck’s looks will last for years.”

“First in Class” is a unique creation that Stroup and his First Class Services crew put through radical modification: its CAT 3406B power plant was replaced by a Pittsburgh Power 750-hp engine; the frame was stretched from a 260” wheelbase to 305”; the cab and sleeper were converted to a unibilt format; the windshield was lowered 4”; dash, header, door panels, floor boards and rear interior sleeper were all replaced, and the list goes on. And that remarkable paint job was the finishing touch.

John C. Lewis, PPG Industries, brand manager – commercial segments, said “First Class Services did a fantastic job on their truck. They’ve taken custom truck building to another level. PPG is proud to be a part of it. We enjoy participating in the truck show and seeing what these enthusiasts do with our products.”

The contest, which was by invitation only, matched five prominent North American custom truck builders in a contest to create the ultimate big rig working truck. Participants are supported by PPG and Jones Performance, Inc. PPG supplies paint products to the competitors and Jones Performance, a manufacturer of fiberglass truck hoods and custom components, offers design consulting and fabrication services.
