delfleet® essential basecoat

Did You Know...

...Delfleet® Essential basecoat increases productivity and efficiency?

With the introduction of Delfleet Essential's new basecoat offering, shops can increase their productivity while keeping their inventory streamlined, making them more efficient. Mixing ESSS color as a basecoat reduces dry times when compared to the Essential single stage topcoats, making it ideal for two-tone jobs or striping. Because the basecoat is mixed from the same color formula as the single stage, lower inventory is also possible.

The basecoat is out of dust in 15-30 minutes, can be taped in 1-2 hours, and can be clearcoated in as little as 30 minutes. When used with product's clearcoat ESC621, durability is also extended so you can offer more value to your customer with a new 3 year warranty.

Check out our Delfleet® Essential basecoat page for more information.

And, did you know that when you look up the formula you can also find your cost to mix the color plus review the VOC information for this particular color?

If you are not using this feature on the website and want to learn how to use it, this user guide shows you how.

cpc sp-61 spectrophotometer

Did You Know...

...all these things about your CPC SP-61 spectrophotometer?

  • Spectrophotometers are NOT cameras
  • Spectrophotometers are NOT optimized to see Black colors
  • Calibrating on anything other than the white tile sent with the instrument WILL degrade performance and provide poor color matches
  • Maintenance of the device is necessary, just like your car; waiting just makes it more expensive
  • Garbage In = Garbage Out

If you answered NO to any of these items, learn more about this tool, so that it will deliver the results you want and expect.

delfleet® essential basecoat expands color capability

Did You Know...

...Delfleet® Essential Basecoat expands color capability?

With the introduction of Delfleet Essential’s new basecoat offering, the product’s color palette just got bigger. Besides covering solid and metallic colors, Delfleet Essential now has pearl color capability in its basecoat line by incorporating Delfleet Evolution F38XX series micas into Essential formulas. (Pearl formulas are intended for basecoat only and must be clearcoated.)

Additionally, finding a formula couldn’t be easier. To keep the line as streamlined as possible and to keep mixing easy, both basecoat and single stage topcoats can be mixed from the same ESSS color formula. See the Delfleet Essential basecoat tech data sheet DFE-21, for mixing information.

Delfleet Essential basecoat is recommended for overall repair and refurbishment jobs. It is great for striping too. Even with Essential’s more compact toner bank, 97% of the Delfleet color selector or “suitcase” colors are now available in Delfleet Essential. If truck collision spot or panel repair is needed, Delfleet Evolution is the recommended product for premium color match.

commercial vehicle corrosion

Did You Know...

...fighting commercial vehicle corrosion just became easier by downloading PPG's industry research paper?

The Federal Highway Administration reports $50 billion is spent by the transportation industry on vehicle repair/replacement and infrastructure (source FHWA-RD-01-156) because of corrosion related problems. Obviously, fighting corrosion effectively can be a major source of savings for companies that depend on transportation.

PPG Commercial Coatings is dedicated to helping manufacturers and fleet operators in their never-ending battle against corrosion. And that battle begins with knowledge.

You can now download the industry research paper from PPG Commercial Coatings: Minimizing the effects of Galvanic Corrosion.

This research paper provides an overview of galvanic corrosion, its causes, and finally, an examination of proven corrosion prevention strategies. From initial design to manufacturing to daily road use, this is insight you need in your fight against corrosion.

high hiding resins in commercial performance coatings

Did You Know...

...we have high hiding resins in CPC?

We added two high hiding yellow resins to the CPC/LIC family in the past year. These high hiding resins are AUE-360YL and AUE-300YL. Both come in gallons and will provide 30 - 40% better hiding on select colors.

The select colors can be found in CPC/Aquacron Pre-Formulated colors on the PPG Commercial Coatings or Refinish website. Chips of the colors are in the two-binder set of CPC colors for your reference.

We have created an index to help you identify which colors are included in the database of the YL formulas.

All you need do is search on-line color by the number, choose the appropriate quality and make the color as with other pre-formulated colors.

delfleet® essential basecoat's new look

Did You Know...

...that Delfleet Essential basecoat has a new look?

To make the Essential basecoat package easy to identify, we've introduced an orange Delfleet Essential label to be used on the mixed color package, the ESH210 Hardener and the ESB800 basecoat converter to signify that they go together.

The Essential single stage and its components will continue to carry their traditional white and orange labels. For shops spraying both basecoats and single stage topcoats, this should help to reduce mixing errors.

As a reminder, although the Essential basecoat can be made from the same ESSS color formula as the single stage, the basecoat requires difference B components and has a different mix ratio of 2:1:1 (2 parts ESSS color : 1 part ESB800 : 1 part ESH210).

finding technical data sheets online

Did You Know...

...that you can access any commercial Technical Data Sheet online?

All Technical Data Sheets (TDS) contain essential technical information for successful mixing and application of all Commercial Coatings' products.

Even if you have a printed TDS in your hand, you should always check online to see if there is an updated copy. Compare the revision dates in the footer of the documents and use the one with the most recent date.

This is the quickest path to finding any TDS. Stary by clicking on Product Catalog in My PPG Toolbox.

Then search for the product by name. Usually, entering only the prefix code will bring up all of the possible products. This eliminates the need to have a dash or a space in the proper place.

delfleet essential slower hardener

Did You Know...

...that just in time for the upcoming hot weather, a new hardener option is available for Delfleet Essential topcoats to slow down cure rates?

If you find that you need longer melt-in times this summer, you can use a different hardener that is already in your Delfleet Essential line. ESU419, the hardener designed for the ESU410 urethane primer, can now be used in Essential topcoats.

If you mix Essential color with ESU419 at a mix ratio of 5 parts color, 1 part ESU419, and 1 part activator, you should see doubling of your out-of-dust and tape-free times in air dry scenarios. Potlife is also extended. ESX530 or ESX540 would be the recommended activators for hot weather. To learn more details, we've created a technical bulletin outlining the mixing instructions.
