Mixing Room Best Practices for Solventborne Paint Products

do

  • Place new cans of solventborne paint toners on the shaker for 30 minutes before placing on the mixing bank.
  • Initial power-up of mixing bank—agitate toners for 30 minutes. Repeat during the day or at least three times per day for 15-minute intervals.
  • Make sure the lid is securely fastened to the toner before pouring.
  • Keep the scale clean. Paint build-up on the scale can cause the scale to improperly weigh material.
  • Locate scale in a place with little air movement or vibrations. Even the slightest draft can cause a variance during the mixing process.
  • Place newly mixed colors on a shaker for 20 minutes, especially when using powder pearls.
don't
  • When reducing products, do not "guess" the amount when you are mixing. Use a PPG mixing cup, mixing stick, or the digital scale readings for the product found in the product bulletin or the PaintManager™ system.
  • When tinting, do not substitute toners. Follow what is in the formula.
  • Small amount warnings—refinish systems use high strength toners in small amounts. Do not break down formulas in amounts that are too small, this may jeopardize match.
