NSRA National's PPG Outstanding Use of Color winners announced
STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – September 9, 2009 – PPG presented three vehicles with its coveted “Outstanding Use of Color” awards at the 40th annual Street Rod Nationals held August 6 – 9 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. Hosted by the National Street Rod Association (NSRA), the gathering attracted more than 11,000 cars this year. The PPG awards were announced during the Circle of Winners program at the conclusion of the 4-day event.
The “Outstanding Use of Color” awards are given out yearly with the winners chosen on how well their vehicles exemplify the elegant, rich and vibrant palette of PPG finishes. The winners of the PPG awards for 2009 were a 1948 Ford F1 pickup owned by Paul and Carol Gerritsen of Dandridge, TN, a 1939 Ford Deluxe convertible owned by Marv and Jan Bok of Auburn, IN and a 1934 Cadillac 4-door sedan owned by Ronnie and Janet Black of Ringgold, GA.
The Blacks used PPG’s Deltron® products to achieve a dramatic Santa Fe Poly- and berry red-toned finish on their Cadillac. The Gerritsens used the Vibrance Collection® to create a spectacular combo of dark khaki and dark kiwi custom pearlescent green shades for their Ford truck. The Boks opted for a cabernet hue out of the Vibrance Collection for their Ford ragtop.
“Winning this award is great,” said Marv Bok. “The first thing people at the show noticed on the car was the paint. The color came out exactly the way I wanted – an elegant, deep candy red. I am thrilled with the results I got with PPG’s paint.”
Selecting just three cars from the vast field of attractive entries was a challenge.
“Picking winners is really tough because there are just so many incredible paint schemes people create for their cars and trucks,” said David McConnaughey, collision product manager for PPG. “You think you’ve seen it all and then some very imaginative people come along and use PPG paint to create new finishes that are genuinely beautiful and eye-popping. This year’s winners were amazing.”
The NSRA’s Street Rod Nationals draw tens of thousands of street rod fans every year, making it one of the largest exhibitions of its kind in the world. PPG is the organization’s official paint product sponsor.
