New Tobacco Use Report (07-03-2006)

The Agency for Health Research and Quality (AHRQ) has released an evidence report summarizing available evidence on the effectiveness of community and population-based efforts to prevent tobacco use and encourage smoking cessation, and on the impact of smokeless tobacco marketing.

The report was requested and funded by the National Institutes of Health's Office of the Medical Applications of Research (NIH/OMAR) for a State-of-the-Science Conference held on June 12-14, 2006, at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland.

AHRQ's evidence-based Practice Center and the University of North Carolina conducted the systematic literature review and prepared the report.

The report is available on the AHRQ Web site at http://www.ahrq.gov/downloads/pub/evidence/pdf/tobaccouse/tobuse.pdf.

To obtain a printed copy, send an e-mail to AHRQpubs@ahrq.hhs.gov. Ask for Evidence Report / Technology Assessment Number 140, Evidence Report on Tobacco Use: Prevention, Cessation, and Control.
