<h1>PPG Pretreatment</h1>
<span class="sub_title">A &quot;green&quot; method to achieving corrosion protection and paint-adhesion.</span>
<p>Pretreatments dramatically enhance coating adhesion and reduce the rate of surface corrosion in the event that the paint film is broken. Not only does effective pretreatment depend on high quality chemical formulations but also on a precise system designed to control the temperature, flow and duration of the application process. Low temperature cleaners and ambient temperature phosphates save on energy costs required to operate a pretreatment system.</p>
<p>PPG is the only global coatings supplier that offers a complete complementary line of pretreatment products such as multi-metal safe cleaners, ambient temperature cleaners, as well as iron, zinc and ambient temperature phosphates. PPG's pretreatment arsenal includes versatile products to meet the demands for various application methods, substrate types and markets served.</p>
<h2>PPG Featured Pretreatment Products</h2>
<h3>ZIRCOBOND®</h3>
<p>While the pretreatment process cleans and provides corrosion protection to metal and other surfaces, the traditional zinc-phosphate used generates sludge which contains heavy metals such as nickel, zinc and manganese, making them subject to environmental regulations. As a result, PPG has developed Zircobond® pretreatment, an alternative pretreatment based on zirconium chemistry and a proprietary blend of additives. Zircobond® pretreatment cuts sludge by-product from the pretreatment process by at least 80 percent compared to zinc-phosphate-based products and it can be used in existing pretreatment lines.</p>
<h3>ULTRAGUARD ATP 31®</h3>
<p>Ultraguard ATP 31® is a detergent iron phosphate (cleaner-coater) specially formulated to clean and coat steel in one stage at ambient temperature. Salt spray performance is comparable to standard high temperature iron phosphates.</p>
<h3>ULTRAGUARD ATP 31SW®</h3>
<p>Ultraguard ATP 31SW® is a liquid iron phosphate concentrate formulated for preparing large steel components for paint by utilizing spray wand equipment. Proper use provides cleaning and phosphate in one operation at room temperature. </p>
<h3>ULTRAGUARD ATP 50®</h3>
<p>Ultraguard ATP 50® is a low temperature iron phosphate for use on steel surfaces prior to painting. The operating temperature range is 20˚C (70oF) to 160˚C (140oF). It is designed for use after typical alkaline or neutral cleaners.</p>
<h3>X-BOND 4000®</h3>
<p>X-Bond 4000® is an environmentally compliant pretreatment that is effective in multi-metal applications. X-Bond 4000® is formulated to provide excellent corrosion resistance for steel, galvanized steel, zinc and aluminium. X-Bond 4000® operates at ambient temperature, contains no toxic metals and creates minimal sludge. </p>
