In Europe, PPG's epoxy-free coating is the leading technology for the interiors of easy-open beer and beverage can lids.
For interior applications, formulations with vinyl-organosol afford maximum flexibility of the cured coating, while PPG's modified-epoxy base coating is BADGE compliant to meet the strictest environmental requirements. Both formulations provide superior coverage at the necessary thicknesses for internal application. They withstand high temperatures used in food processing and beer pasteurization as well as resist reaction with and protect the metal from acid environments, carbonation, salts and other solutions.
For food can ends, gold and clear epoxy-based coatings provide excellent flexibility and resistance to scuff and abrasion. PPG also supplies two-coat easy open end systems of epoxy-phenolic base coats and organosol top coats.
UV-curable, steam processable enamels are available for exterior tin free steel applications.
