PPG's Quality Process is a formal system of continuous improvement that enables employees to meet customer requirements and grow shareholder value. It is founded upon team-based problem solving and continuous improvement.
Since being founded in 1883, PPG has been dedicated to producing quality products and services. Our recent Quality efforts began in the 1980s with the company-wide inception of formal team-based, structured problem-solving.
Our Quality Process evolved throughout the 1990s with an additional emphasis on data and statistical process control. We saw the importance of understanding and reducing variation within our processes. To accomplish this, we blended elements of Six Sigma with our solid Quality foundation and toolset. Thus, the Sigma Logic® methodology was created.
In 2000, we began to see a new opportunity: removing waste from the value stream. The Lean methodology was adopted and integrated into our Quality Process.
As our manufacturing processes continued to improve, we wanted our business processes to benefit from these new tools of the PPG Quality Process. Business Process Excellence was introduced in 2002 to enable us to define and redesign our business processes.
