PPG Extra-Heavy Starphire Ultra-Clear Glass Now Available as Stock Inventory Item
Industry’s Clearest Commercial Glass Now Available in Standard Thicknesses of 15 and 19 millimeters

PITTSBURGH, May 30, 2006 – PPG Industries announced that its Starphire ultra-clear glass is now available as a standard inventory item in 15 and 19 millimeter thicknesses.

The availability of extra-heavy Starphire glass is the result of a $1 million investment PPG has made in its Starphire glass manufacturing capability in response to growing demand for this product.

Unlike traditional clear glass, which typically displays a light green cast, the clarity of extra-heavy Starphire glass actually intensifies as it gets thicker, enabling architects to incorporate an enhanced level of sleekness and clarity into building designs.

Recent manufacturing advances also have made Starphire ultra-clear glass, which was formerly a premium niche product, cost-competitive with other commonly specified architectural glasses. It is often used for storefronts, skylights, display windows, security glass, atria and other applications where exceptional transparency is desired.

Starphire ultra-clear glass is available through members of the PPG Certified Fabricator Program (PPG/CFP) and more than 100 glass fabricators throughout the United States and Canada. To learn more, or to order a sample of extra-heavy Starphire glass, call 1-888-PPG-IDEA (774-4332) or visit www.ppgideascapes.com.

Pittsburgh-based PPG Industries is the largest flat glass manufacturer in North America. The company’s glass businesses supply glass for commercial and residential construction markets, products for industrial and specialty applications, as well as automotive, aircraft and other transportation original equipment, and replacement windshields and windows. PPG also is a global producer of coatings, fiber glass and chemicals. Sales in 2005 were $10.4 billion.

Starphire is a trademark of PPG Industries.
