“Trading Spaces” Designer Laurie Smith Signs with Olympic Paints and Stains

Southern Belle Smith will launch fall decorating blitz just before holidays — and baby #2

PITTSBURGH, September 27, 2006 — Olympic Paints and Stains has signed celebrity designer Laurie Smith of TLC’s popular “Trading Spaces” as spokesperson for the brand this fall.

“Laurie is famous for using bold colors and warm tones, and so is Olympic,” said Khristine Selelyo, Olympic marketing manager. “Her enthusiasm for color made Laurie the perfect fit.” The Olympic brand is all about color with beautiful, inspiring palettes and tools to help the consumer with decorating decisions.

Smith is often recognized, too, for her curly red mane and brilliant individual style. She is expecting her second child in November. A working mom, Smith has continued designing for “Trading Spaces” and collaborating on projects.

Viewers will remember a pregnant Smith navigating demolished rooms and “carpentry world” undaunted in 2002, prior to the birth of her first child.

Smith and Olympic won’t yet reveal details of the fall campaign, only that it focuses on an often overlooked room in the house — one that is especially important during the holidays.

Interior designer Laurie Smith is one of the two original designers on TLC’s “Trading Spaces” and a favorite among fans. Laurie, who trained at the New York School of Interior Design in Manhattan, describes herself as a “modern classic.” She uses color and vibrancy to create new spaces and always does so with style and grace. Laurie is also the author of the new book Discovering Home, which is a wonderful vehicle for finding personal style. Laurie lives in Jackson, Miss., with her husband, Brad, and her son, Gibson Witherspoon.
