PPG named official paint of American Truck Historical Society

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio, Feb. 20, 2007 – PPG Commercial Coatings has been named as the “Official Paint of the American Truck Historical Society” (ATHS). The not-for-profit ATHS was incorporated in 1971 to preserve the history of trucks, the trucking industry, and its pioneers. Shortly afterward, the American Trucking Association officially recognized the ATHS as the “duly authorized organization to record and develop trucking industry historical data.”

“We are very pleased to name PPG as the “Official Paint of the American Truck Historical Society,” said Bill Johnson, Managing Director ATHS. “Members of the Society that are restoring trucks will benefit greatly from this relationship by being able to access the resources and knowledge available from PPG.”

“Our affiliation with the ATHS is a natural,” said John Lewis, product manager for PPG Commercial Coatings. “PPG has been supplying innovative paint and coatings to original equipment manufacturers, refinishers, and restorers of not only trucks, but buses, rail, emergency vehicles, aircraft and other commercial vehicles for many, many years.”

“Not only are PPG Commercial Coatings the choice among manufacturers and restorers of commercial vehicles in terms of quality, durability, color match, and productivity, our paint systems offer additives that provide protection against graffiti, fuels, humidity, solvents, and detergents,” Lewis adds.

“We look forward to seeing what ATHS members can do with our huge selection of colors and coatings systems.”

The ATHS organization has grown from 350 members in 1977 to over 23,000 members in the United States, Australia, Canada, and 20 other countries today. The ATHS publishes a bimonthly magazine, Wheels of Time, that includes articles and photographs of antique truck restorations, trucking company histories and personal stories of the truckers who made the industry the driving force it is today. Their 30,700-square foot facility in Kansas City, Mo., permanently houses the Society’s headquarters, library and archives.
