Solarban 70XL glass now available to homeowners for residential windows

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 22, 2007 – PPG Industries' (NYSE:PPG) performance glazings business has published a brochure introducing Solarban 70XL solar control low-emissivity glass to homeowners and residential window makers.

Introduced for commercial construction in 2005, Solarban 70XL glass offers superior visible light transmittance and solar control performance, together with a highly transparent, clear glass appearance architects and homeowners desire.

Solarban 70XL glass marks an advance in glass technology because it transmits 65 percent of the sun’s natural light in a standard insulating glass unit, while blocking more than 70 percent of solar energy. It can dramatically reduce summer cooling bills while still allowing homeowners to enjoy the comfort of abundant natural light in their homes.

In addition to keeping homes cooler in the summer, Solarban 70XL glass can also keep them warmer in the winter. Compared to ordinary clear glass, Solarban 70XL glass cuts furnace heat lost through windows by more than half.

Finally, with a Damage Weighted Transmittance of 0.43, Solarban 70XL glass blocks fabric-fading energy up to 42 percent more effectively than ordinary clear glass.
