PPG Aerospace awarded cockpit window contract for Cessna Citation CJ4 jet

Newest Cessna in long line flying with PPG all-glass heated windows

PARIS, June 18, 2007 – PPG Aerospace – Transparencies has been awarded a contract by Cessna Aircraft Co. to supply cockpit windows for the new Citation CJ4 business jet. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The all-glass heated windshields and side cockpit windows for the Citation CJ4 business jet are similar to those PPG supplies for Cessna’s Citation VII, Citation X, Citation Excel and Citation Sovereign business jets, according to Ann Wommack, PPG senior account manager.

“PPG has been a longtime supplier of cockpit windows to Cessna, and we are pleased to have this opportunity to continue the relationship,” Wommack said. “The Citation VII had the first PPG heated glass windshield on a Citation jet, and the CJ4 marks the latest in a growing line of Citation jets flying with them.”

The cockpit windows for the CJ4 jet will have three plies of Herculite II glass by PPG, which is chemically tempered for high strength at light weight, and the Nesatron heating system, Wommack said. The windshields will also have Surface Seal hydrophobic coating for rain clearing and an antistatic coating to redirect static discharge and enhance the life of the Surface Seal coating, which she said enabled Cessna to eliminate windshield wipers on the plane.

The windshields also will be designed to resist impact by a 4-pound bird at 260 knots.

PPG will deliver test articles in August and begin delivery of production parts in 2008, with 60 shipsets per year to be delivered by 2013. The transparencies will be produced at PPG’s Huntsville, Ala., aircraft products plant.

Paris Air Show visitors can see PPG windshields on display at the PPG Aerospace exhibit at Hall 2B, Stand H6. The Paris Air Show is June 18-24 at Le Bourget Airport.
