PPG achieves ISO 9001:2000 certification for CMP products

PITTSBURGH, July 12, 2007 – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG), a leading global provider of coating and specialty products, today announced that it received ISO 9001:2000 certification for the design and production of its chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) products, Fast Pads.

Achieving ISO 9001:2000 quality management certification demonstrates PPG’s commitment to maintaining a high level of quality as the company and its offerings expand and mature, according to Shailesh Patkar, PPG sales and marketing manager, CMP products. “It is one thing to have a commitment to quality,” he said. “It is quite another to establish the comprehensive processes and innovative procedures that provide consistent implementation across all projects, by all employees, with checks and balances that ensure a project’s success.”

Recognized with worldwide acceptance as the comprehensive international standard that defines quality, ISO 9001:2000 requires independent annual auditing to ensure compliance and measure continuous improvement initiatives. The ISO 9001:2000 standard emphasizes customer satisfaction and encourages organizations to listen and respond to customer feedback to proactively enhance service if and where necessary. The standard also promotes improved documentation and process control, leading to increased productivity and reduced costs that are passed on to customers.

Leveraging PPG’s industry-leading innovation and technology in material design and manufacturing, CMP products designs and produces patented, high-performance pad technologies used in the chemical mechanical polishing of advanced microchips for the semiconductor industry. Fast Pads deliver unparalleled consistency and efficiency to the process, Patkar said, ensuring the flawless polishing surface needed to make fast and powerful integrated circuits. Offered in open-cell and closed-cell varieties, Fast Pads deliver the reliable process stability required in the semiconductor manufacturing process, and Patkar said several global semiconductor producers use Fast Pads to help ensure product quality and performance and take advantage of long pad life.

PPG will showcase these products at Semicon West, booth #2812 – South, in San Francisco, July 17-19, 2007.
