PPG to introduce new custom colors at SEMA Show
STRONGSVILLE, Ohio, Sept. 7, 2007 – PPG Industries’ (NYSE: PPG) automotive refinish business will introduce new additions to its line of
Vibrance Collection custom finishes at this year’s SEMA Show, Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Chief among the new products is
Ditzler Big Flake, an additive containing very large, color-shifting metallic flakes that produces a unique “retro” look when added to a basecoat or clearcoat. “The product is named ‘
Ditzler’ after the Ditzler Color Company, which was founded in 1902 and purchased by the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company in 1928,” said Randy Cremeans, manager, collision segments, North America, for PPG Automotive Refinish. “Known as PPG Industries today, the company marketed its automotive refinish products under the
Ditzler name until 1986.
Many custom finishers used
Ditzler products over the years and “are very nostalgic about the
Ditzler name,” Cremeans said. “We felt
Ditzler Big Flake was an appropriate name for this ‘retro-looking’ product.”
Another addition to the line of
Vibrance Collection custom finishes is VC5200 Custom Clear, designed to achieve optimum performance when applying graphics. “This high-solids, urethane clearcoat offers absolutely dynamite gloss, is easy to spray and buffs like a dream,” Cremeans said. “Good graphics should be buried in the clear. VC5200 fills tapelines and graphics with great vertical hold.”
This year’s PPG display at the SEMA Show will offer a “show-stopping array of colors and finishes,” Cremeans said. “Custom finishers and manufacturers of automotive accessories will want to see what PPG coatings can do for their products.”
