BARBERTON, Ohio, May 7, 2009
– The PPG Industries Foundation has donated $2,500 to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank for operating support.

"We are very pleased to receive support from PPG to help us end hunger in Northeastern Ohio," said Daniel R. Flowers, president and chief executive officer, Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. "This funding assists the Foodbank in meeting the increased demand for food from our local hunger centers.”

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank experienced an unprecedented demand for emergency food requests in 2008, distributing 16 million pounds of food, which was a 25-percent increase over 2007. This increased demand has remained steady in 2009. The Foodbank provides food to more than 370 community organizations that operate food pantries, hot meal programs, shelters and other emergency hunger-relief programs in Carroll, Holmes, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties.

“PPG is strongly committed to supporting the communities where its employees work and live,” said Rich Bauer, plant manager at PPG’s chemicals manufacturing facility in Barberton. “We are proud to support the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank in its efforts to continue helping needy people in our region by providing them with the best-quality food available at little or no cost.”

Established in 1951, the PPG Industries Foundation demonstrates the values of PPG Industries by enhancing the quality of life in communities where the company has a presence. Interests of the foundation, in order of priority, are education, human services, culture and arts, and civic and community affairs. PPG also supports charitable causes by encouraging employee volunteerism and executives’ involvement with nonprofit organizations.
