The PPG Industries Foundation has donated $5,000 to Preservation Parks of Delaware County to support development of The Lodge, the soon-to-open nature center at Deer Haven Preserve.
"We are very pleased to have received support from PPG for the new nature center at Deer Haven Preserve," said Rita Au, executive director, Preservation Parks of Delaware County. "The donation helped to fund construction of the new center as well as outfitting it with useful resources for visitors, such as library books and wildlife-viewing tools."
Deer Haven Preserve is a 97-acre park located in Liberty Township. Ground was broken there last September for construction of the 3,500-square-foot nature center. Opening in fall 2009, The Lodge will include a library, a meeting room for on-site classes and use by community groups, a wildlife-viewing area and a display of bird and animal specimens. Visitors can use the center’s binoculars and spotting scopes on site, and educational programming is available.
“PPG is strongly committed to supporting the communities where its employees work and live,” said Carl Johnson, North America director of refinish manufacturing, based at PPG’s automotive refinish paint manufacturing facility in Delaware. “We are proud to support Preservation Parks of Delaware County in its efforts to preserve green space in our rapidly developing county and to provide environmental education to residents.”
