PPG received the 2009 Color Application Gold Award and the title of 2009-2010 Most Popular Brand of Paints and Coatings at the 5th Color China Annual China Color Grand Award Ceremony, Beijing, Dec. 3. This award recognized the Seigneurie paints used by nearly 50 French mural painters from CiteCreation to create a 5,000-square-meter trompe-l’oeil fresco painting at the Carrefour Shanghai Wuning Store in 2008. The painting is the largest of its kind and is protected with an exterior insulation finish system. The environmentally responsible Seigneurie paints used offer decorative protection to the modern fresco art. The committee of professionals from Color China said, “With the support of the Nanometric Painting System (NPS), PPG’s architectural coatings offer excellent stain-resistance and color-retention performance, which provides great technical support for the fresco.”
In addition to this praise from experts, PPG’s architectural coatings have also won recognition from the public. IVY and Master’s Mark paints ranked in the top three in a public satisfaction survey of paint and coatings.
“In today’s market, consumers desire environmentally responsible coatings, which means the age of water-based coatings has arrived,” said Pauline Yuen, PPG general manager, automotive refinish, architectural coatings and light industrial coatings, Greater China and North Asia. “The public and experts have recognized PPG because the company’s coatings offer excellent performance and are safer for the environment and our health.”
Based on superior decorative, protective and environmental performance, Yuen said, PPG has become the coatings supplier for the USA Pavilion and France Pavilion of Shanghai EXPO. Also, PPG coatings are used in many major construction projects, supplying the external wall insulation system for Bilin Wan, considered a milestone in energy-saving building design, and protecting more than a half-million square meters of elevated roads in Shanghai with SUPERSOYTEX waterborne paint. Sustainable efforts by PPG are contributing to the development of a low-carbon economy in China, Yuen said.
Pittsburgh-based PPG is a global supplier of paints, coatings, optical products, specialty materials, chemicals, glass and fiber glass.
