Carl Zeiss Vision expands PrescripSun(TM) Program
Becomes exclusive U.S. distributor of prescription lenses by Intercast Europe
SAN DIEGO, May 14, 2010 – Carl Zeiss Vision and Intercast Europe, a wholly owned subsidiary of PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG), have announced an exclusive distribution agreement under which Carl Zeiss Vision’s Laboratory network will be the exclusive provider of NXT(R) Rx lenses through its national lab network and other wholesale labs.
“As part of our ever-expanding offering of prescription sunwear capabilities, we seek to align ourselves with the best sunlens technology providers,” said Fred Howard, Carl Zeiss Vision’s president – Americas-Pacific. “NXT lenses feature unique casting technology and a range of high-tech sunwear options that are an excellent fit with our lab processing, and with our single vision and progressive designs. We are excited to include this technology in our PrescripSun(TM) portfolio.”
NXT Rx lenses are made using a proprietary “confined tinting” process in which the tint actually permeates the front of the lens to a depth of up to 0.9 millimeters, creating superior color stability, photochromic performance and UV protection for the life of the lens. NXT lenses are made with Trivex(R) material and are available in a wide variety of colors and styles, including matte tints, mirror tints, photochromic tints, polarized treatments, and combined polarized/photochromic treatments.
“We are very pleased to have Carl Zeiss Vision as our U.S. distributor of prescription sunlenses,” said Christine Camsuzou, general manager, PPG Optical Materials. “They provide us with national distribution, an expert sales team and the highest standard of precision and quality in lens surfacing. We believe they are an ideal partner for expansion in the U.S. market.”
