SHANGHAI, June 30, 2010 – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) recently showcased its EcoLogical Solutions products and its sustainability efforts to the local community during the “Open-to-Public Day 2010” organized by the Association of International Chemical Manufacturers (AICM) in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP). More than 180 people – SCIP representatives, local residents, school students and some representatives of AICM member companies and media – attended the event and saw PPG’s booth, themed “PPG products found around the home.”
PPG employees introduce “green” products and innovative solutions from PPG to local students.
“This was the first time PPG participated in the Open-to-Public Day organized by AICM, and it was very impressive,” said Cathy Yan, general manager of government affairs and business development, PPG Asia/Pacific. “As the world’s leading coatings and specialty products company with a 127-year history, PPG holds recognition of the concerns and needs of society as a key value. This Open-to-Public Day was a perfect platform for PPG to present our sustainability efforts to the local public.”
With 14 manufacturing plants in China, PPG meets high standards for environment, health and safety and product stewardship and is committed to developing environmentally-responsible, energy-saving products. In 2009, 26.4 percent of PPG’s sales were from “green” products – products that PPG believes have positive energy or environmental attributes. This was up more than 2 percent from the previous year. Also, of the 65 new products PPG introduced in 2009, 38 were expressly formulated to promote environmental sustainability by reducing energy consumption, volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions or water use. These “green” products are anticipated to generate just under $3 billion in sales before 2015.
“Green” products from PPG that people encounter in their daily lives were displayed and introduced to local residents and students on-site. The company also announced that it will host an open-to-public day at its Songjiang, Shanghai, architectural coatings plant later this year.
