Collaborative approach accelerates color, coatings development for OEMs

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 27, 2010 – PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) industrial coatings business has published a white paper describing the new PPG Color Launch Process, which helps original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) speed the development of custom colors and coatings, and thereby move new consumer products to market faster.

Chancey Hagerty, PPG business director for global consumer products, said the PPG Color Launch Process enables OEM designers and manufacturing personnel to collaborate with PPG’s color and technical experts at the earliest stages of product development.

“Our systematized approach helps OEMs generate color ideas based on cultural, technological and demographic trends, then bridge the gap between how coatings are styled in the studio and applied on the manufacturing line,” Hagerty said. “That not only expedites the development of new products, but also helps reduce the risk associated with launching them.”

The white paper details the seven stages of the PPG Color Launch Process, beginning with color styling workshops and continuing through coatings formulation, application and manufacturing validation,  pre-production trials, mass production, and feedback.
