PPG debuts PPG Paint Color & Design Center on Light Up Night

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 16, 2010 – PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) architectural coatings business has announced the opening of its first PPG Paint Color & Design Center on the city’s Light Up Night, Friday, Nov. 19, in Downtown Pittsburgh. The retail space will be located in 2 PPG Place between GNC and Crazy Mocha, facing Market Square.

Visitors to the mostly self-serve center can browse full displays for PPG PITTSBURGH(R) Paints and OLYMPIC(R) Paints and Stains and take home tools such as paint and stain chips that will be available free of charge. After Light Up Night, the PPG Paint Color & Design Center will be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Our hope is that the PPG Paint Color & Design Center will make it convenient for homeowners who spend the bulk of their days downtown to get some ‘home work’ done during the work day,” said Dee Schlotter, national color brand manager for PPG Architectural Coatings.

In the coming weeks, Schlotter said an interior designer or PPG employee will be available during lunch hours to help design center visitors find perfect paint colors for their spaces. Once customers settle on a paint color, either with assistance or by browsing and using the take-home tools on their own, she said they can have a designer or PPG employee at the center call to order paint for pick-up at one of more than 40 area PPG Pittsburgh Paints dealer locations, such as Masterwork Paint & Decorating, Westmoreland Supply Paint & Decor or Rollier’s Hardware, or a local Lowe’s store for Olympic Paints.

The space will open Friday, Nov. 19, at 5 p.m., with Light Up Night festivities including a PPG Paint Color Scavenger Hunt and a Name Our Colors contest, as well as gifts for early visitors. The scavenger hunt invites participants to match five Olympic Paints and PPG Pittsburgh Paints colors to items in the PPG Place area, and the Name Our Colors contest invites entrants to submit names for three PPG Pittsburgh Paints colors in a new palette for THE VOICE OF COLOR(R) program. All scavenger hunt and Name Our Colors contest participants before 8 p.m. will be entered to win:

  • A two-hour consultation with a professional interior designer, interior paint, and a professional painter’s services to repaint a room of the winner’s choice (one grand prize valued at $600 total)
  • A style book highlighting the Hacienda Color Collection of PPG Pittsburgh Paints (six winners, $50 value each)
  • A coupon for a free gallon of Olympic Paints or PPG Pittsburgh Paints (12 winners, $25-45 value each)

Also, the first 250 center visitors will receive a buy one, get one free coupon for a gallon of PPG Pittsburgh Paints and a colorful lollipop.
