PPG, NATM present first Green Manufacturing Award to Engelbrecht Grills & Cookers
STRONGSVILLE, Ohio, April 6, 2011 – PPG Industries' (NYSE:PPG) commercial coatings group and the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) honored Engelbrecht Grills & Cookers, Paxton, Ill., with their first Green Manufacturing Award at the NATM 23rd Annual Convention and Trade Show in Albuquerque, N.M. The award recognizes the best innovation or novel solution by a member of the NATM that positively affects the environment.
PPG's commercial coatings group partnered with the NATM last year to establish the annual Green Manufacturing Award as an expression of PPG’s commitment to protecting and improving the environment. Companies are judged on case studies in which they demonstrate improved, environmentally conscious performance in their operations. Criteria for the award include being an NATM member in good standing and documentation of the “green” initiative or improvements the company has made.
Chris Engelbrecht, owner of Engelbrecht Grills & Cookers, accepted the award honoring his company’s efforts to significantly reduce its carbon impact. In 2010, Engelbrecht began using a multi-fuel biomass burner that could burn almost anything, reduced its winter propane use from 1,500 gallons to approximately 75 gallons – a reduction about equivalent to the propane in three 100-pound cylinders – and installed energy-efficient T-5 fluorescent lighting as well as an idle function on all welders. The company also has a windbreak and grass habitat around its building.
"We’ve been a long-time supporter of the NATM,” said Ron Yarnell, PPG manager, commercial market development. “We have a mutual concern for the environment, and by establishing the award, we wanted to acknowledge and honor the many activities NATM members are undertaking. Clearly, Engelbrecht is working hard and doing its part to safeguard the environment.”
PPG’s commercial coatings group offers technologies for the commercial transportation and light industrial markets, including polyurethanes, alkyds, epoxies, polyurea, waterborne, pretreatment chemicals and powder coatings. PPG commercial coatings products are marketed under brand names such as DELFLEET(R) Evolution, DELFLEET ESSENTIAL(R), Commercial Performance Coatings and AMERCOAT(R).
