2011 Autorama Builder of Year Alloway teams with PPG

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio, Nov. 22, 2011 – Street rod builder Bobby Alloway has teamed with PPG Industries' (NYSE:PPG) automotive refinish business to continue his tradition of turning out award-winning vehicles. Alloway’s weapon of choice when creating one-of-a-kind sleek looks for custom car projects at Alloway’s Hot Rod Shop in Louisville, Tenn., is the DELTRON(R) product line.

Alloway has produced timeless street rods since 1978 and opened his own shop in 1991, merging muscle car attitude with hot rod craftsmanship. His highly touted cars feature an aggressive edge attained through a combination of color, physical stance and sheer power. Known as “the master of black,” Alloway had been looking to work with a paint partner that could understand his requirements and meet his high standards when a street rod magazine editor recommended PPG.

“From a service to product standpoint, I am happy that I made the change,” Alloway said. “Once I made the call, the shop was leery, but we are all glad we did it. PPG really works to take care of its customers and their needs and provide a dependable and consistent product.”

Alloway has received numerous national honors for his work, such as the Goodguys Street Rod and Street Machine of the Year awards, a Ridler award and an America’s Most Beautiful Roadster award. He was inducted into the National Rod & Custom Hall of Fame in 2004. This past January, he was named the 2011 Autorama Builder of the Year at the Detroit Autorama.

Alloway appeared as part of the PPG team at the recent 2011 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. He also has represented PPG at several custom car shows around the country, such as the annual Shades of the Past event in September in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

“Bobby Alloway is one of the most accomplished, talented and respected street rod builders in the country. It’s an honor having him on our team,” said Jeff Griffin, PPG manager, collision segment. “Knowing he prefers the PPG Deltron brand, in our opinion, speaks volumes about the quality and versatility of our product line.”
