App is first to enable homeowners to order 8-by-12-inch sample sheets

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 27, 2012 – The makers of PPG PITTSBURGH PAINTS(R) products today announced the release of THE VOICE OF COLOR(R) mobile application, which gives homeowners an intuitive, on-the-go color resource. The free app for iPhone, iPad and Android platforms not only showcases the entire collection for The Voice of Color program, but it also is the first to enable homeowners to order directly from the app to have 8-by-12-inch sample color sheets shipped to their homes free of charge.

The new app ties directly into The Voice of Color program – an integrated, comprehensive design system that offers tools and materials to redefine the world of color. Adding to the program's robust set of digital tools, the app gives users three ways to view, select from and order all of the more than 2,000 colors offered in The Voice of Color program, including:

  • Grab Color From a Photo – Users can take a photo with the mobile device's camera or upload an image of an object, space, fabric or tile that inspires them, and have the app match it with the closest shade from The Voice of Color collection. The tool also offers suggestions for similar and complementary shades based on the selection, so additional colors can be ordered and viewed together on the walls of a space.
  • View Color Collections – Users can browse and order from the exclusive color collections of The Voice of Color program, such as Harmony, Historic and Atmospheric.
  • Use the Color Selector – Users can view all the colors in The Voice of Color program, conveniently organized by primary color family. If the user knows a particular color name or number, he or she can find it here easily.

Research conducted for the PPG Pittsburgh Paints brand found that homeowners often had difficulty visualizing what the color present on a normal-sized paint swatch would look like when applied to the walls of their rooms. The brand’s 8-by-12-inch color sheets are tools that help homeowners visualize color on a larger scale than is possible with a typical paint swatch.

To order 8-by-12-inch color sheets, users can click on any color in the app, see the hue as a full-screen image, and then add it to a "shopping cart." Users need to enter shipping information only once, and then they can proceed quickly to the checkout for subsequent orders. Their requested 8-by-12-inch cards are delivered within a few days. Then, with the app's "Find a Dealer" function, users can find a nearby retail location where they can purchase paints in any colors they want.

The Voice of Color app from the PPG Pittsburgh Paints brand can be downloaded for free directly from the iPhone or iPad App Store as well as the Android Market.
