PPG donates another $5,000 to Dover Library Foundation for new library building
PPG Industries Foundation grant on behalf of local plant supports capital campaign
DOVER, Del., May 3, 2012 – For a second year the PPG Industries Foundation has donated $5,000 to the Dover Library Foundation on behalf of PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) architectural coatings manufacturing facility in Cheswold to support the new Dover Public Library facility construction campaign.
Kathy Collins, operations planning manager at the PPG Industries architectural coatings manufacturing facility in Cheswold, presents a $5,000 check from the PPG Industries Foundation to Margery Cyr, Dover Public Library director, to help fund construction of the new library building, in front of which the women are standing. The library is conducting a capital campaign to fund the replacement of a 50-year old facility and the expansion of community outreach programs, especially for underserved teens and children.
“We are very happy to have PPG’s support for our campaign,” said Margery Cyr, Dover Public Library director. “It’s wonderful to know that our corporate neighbors such as PPG recognize the considerable effort and expense involved with replacing our library building, as well as the importance of the Dover Public Library to all the citizens we support. Our new facility will serve as the anchor library for Kent County and enable us to improve the quality and scope of services we provide to the Dover community.”
The new, ultra-modern Dover Public Library building is expected to be completed in September of this year and will feature sustainable architectural elements and offer additional space, materials and services. As an anchor library, it will provide a strong collection of materials to meet the research and reading needs of the public; professional staffing for services during extended hours and support for other county libraries; computer and other technology training facilities; and meeting and conference rooms for library and public use. Additionally, the library will expand its programs for lifelong learning and enrichment, particularly for literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) teaching and support.
“PPG is strongly committed to supporting the communities where its employees work and live, especially institutions and programs related to education such as our community library,” said Mitch Magee, plant manager at PPG’s Dover facility. “The Dover Public Library offers unlimited learning, development, enrichment and cultural enhancement opportunities to every citizen in the Dover area. We see it as a valuable investment in the future of our community to help with this rebuilding and expansion effort that will help the library serve even more of our neighbors.”
