PPG helps orphans have ‘Dream Day’ at Shanghai Zoo

Volunteer network expands

Volunteers from PPG Industries joined 11 orphans from the Shanghai Children's Welfare Institute on a special tour of the Shanghai Zoo, helping the children to feel like part of a larger community while enjoying a fun recreational event.
SHANGHAI, June 5, 2012 – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) recently participated in “Dream Day at the Zoo,” an event organized by the Shanghai Charity Foundation, Shanghai Zoo and American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (AmCham Shanghai). Thirty PPG employee volunteers joined groups of orphans from the Shanghai Children's Welfare Institute on a special tour of the Shanghai Zoo.

Established by Rotterdam Zoo in the Netherlands in 1996, “Dream Day at the Zoo” is a global charity program aiming to help disadvantaged children enjoy a fun recreational event. Partner organizations in 37 countries around the globe arrange a variety of annual charity events for disadvantaged children. The events encourage participating children to feel like they are part of a larger community and to develop confidence.

This was the first time that PPG, a member of AmCham Shanghai, participated in the event. PPG volunteers joined orphans from the Shanghai Children's Welfare Institute in the day’s activities.

“Recognition of the needs and concerns of society is a key corporate value of PPG, reflected in the company’s ongoing investments in education, environmental-protection measures and community development,” said Cathy Yan, PPG general manager, government affairs and business development, Asia Pacific. “We encourage our employees to get involved in community activities to help those in need. By engaging in programs like this one, employees can further understand our corporate culture and extend it to the areas where PPG operates, as well as to their work.”

PPG China has established volunteer teams in Tianjin and Wuhu with as many as 100 members. On China’s Youth Day 2012, a volunteer team from Shanghai started up, expanding PPG’s volunteer network and community-support capabilities.
