PPG to highlight new, improved family of coil coatings at METALCON 2012
Company to introduce next-generation DURANAR coatings
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 2, 2012 – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) will introduce a new and improved line of coil coatings at booth 2029 at METALCON International 2012 in Chicago, Oct. 9-11.
Among the improved products on display will be next-generation DURANAR(R) coatings. Already one of the industry’s most trusted and specified 70-percent fluoropolymer coatings, Duranar coatings have been reformulated with a lead-free composition, improved solar reflectance index (SRI), expanded color range, optimized primer and other upgrades.
PPG also will exhibit its expanded line of DURASTAR(R) coatings, which now includes standard Durastar, Durastar SMP (silicone-modified polyester) and Durastar SMP ULTRA-COOL(R) coatings. Durastar SMP and Durastar SMP Ultra-Cool coatings were formerly known as SUPERL(R) II and Superl II Ultra-Cool coatings respectively.
Durastar SMP Ultra-Cool coatings are formulated with PPG’s proprietary infrared (IR)-reflective coating technolgy, which deflects heat from buildings to keep them cooler and enables them to use less energy. All Durastar coatings are based on proven formulations developed by PPG that have been used on buildings and building products for more than a decade. Durastar coatings also provide excellent ultraviolet (UV) durability, good hardness and an optimized primer.
METALCON 2012 also will mark the debut of DURAFORM(TM) BP coatings, which are part of a new line of next-generation polyester coatings re-engineered by PPG to optimize performance characteristics for specific market applications. Duraform BP coatings are designed specifically for the building product market and feature enhanced UV durability and dirt resistance.
Other products in the Duraform line, which enhances and replaces the former TRUFORM(R) line of polyester coatings by PPG, include Duraform AP for appliances; Duraform HV for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) components; Duraform DR for doors; Duraform TT for trailers; Duraform LF for lighting; and Duraform CP for consumer products.
Visitors to the PPG booth also will find information about SOLARCLEAR(TM) and SOLARWHITE(TM) coatings, two new mill-applied reflective coatings for low-slope roofing. Designed for high reflectance, Solarclear and Solarwhite coatings feature good corrosion resistance, weatherability and wet-stack resistance.
Chancey Hagerty, PPG business director, building products, said the new and improved coatings will make it easier for architects, specifiers and building product manufacturers to get all their coatings solutions from a single supplier. “With an expanded product base, PPG can now supply all coil product technologies and participate in every coil market segment,” he said. “New products currently account for 30 percent of our coatings sales, which demonstrates our commitment to innovation.”
