PPG publishes new wheel coatings brochure

Single-source supply of primers, base and clear coats for steel, aluminum wheels

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 20, 2013 – PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) industrial coatings business has published a brochure detailing its full line of wheel coating technologies for cars, light-duty trucks, motorcycles, buses and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).

The four-page brochure covers nearly a dozen wheel coating products, including premium aluminum wheel solutions such as ENVIROCRON® powder primers and ENVIRACRYL® powder clear coats as well as SPECTRACRON® and AQUACRON® liquid basecoats and clearcoats.

Manufacturers of steel wheels can also read about PPG’s three-layer coating systems, which incorporate advanced metal pretreatment products such as CHEMFOS® zinc-phosphate coating or X-BOND® and ZIRCOBOND® zirconium-based products, in combination with POWERCRON® electrocoat (e-coat) for the base layer, and Spectracron, Aquacron or Envirocron coating for the finish layer.

In addition to offering wheel manufacturers one of the industry’s widest color palettes, PPG supplies “super-chrome” coatings technology, formulated with bright aluminum flake to give wheels a luxurious, chrome-plated, liquid-metal appearance.

PPG liquid, powder, e-coat and pretreatment solutions are complemented by global research capabilities that enable wheel manufacturers to address challenges related to advanced application equipment, color, aesthetics and environmental mandates, and established relationships with global vehicle manufacturers that can help PPG wheel coatings customers earn required OEM (original equipment manufacturer) approvals and specifications.
