PPG earns 2013 Glass Magazine Award for digital glass visualizer

Proprietary software aids specification by rendering architectural glasses in 3-D


PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) has won a 2013 Glass Magazine Award for its Digital Glass Visualizer, a Web-based tool developed by PPG that renders virtual architectural glass in three dimensions, incorporating color, ambient light, reflectivity, viewing angles, glass thickness and other variables. It helps architects and their clients visualize how glass products will look when installed on a commercial building. PPG glass products can be searched by color or according to desired aesthetic or thermal performance properties such as solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC), visible light transmittance (VLT), light-to-solar gain (LSG) ratio, interior and exterior reflectance and winter U-value. PITTSBURGH, Sept. 30, 2013 – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) has won a 2013 Glass Magazine Award for its Digital Glass Visualizer, a Web-based tool developed by PPG that renders virtual architectural glass in three dimensions, incorporating color, ambient light, reflectivity, viewing angles, glass thickness and other variables. It helps architects and their clients visualize how glass products will look when installed on a commercial building.

The PPG Digital Glass Visualizer is part of PPG Glass eVIEW, a multifunctional suite of online tools that enable architects, glazing contractors, glass fabricators and other professionals to construct virtual monolithic and multicavity glazing configurations using architectural glass from PPG, then to view and compare them side by side to identify the best choice for their building projects.

PPG glass products can be searched by color or according to desired aesthetic or thermal performance properties such as solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC), visible light transmittance (VLT), light-to-solar gain (LSG) ratio, interior and exterior reflectance and winter U-value. Once the glazing configurations are constructed and rendered, users can place them within several pre-programmed exterior building facades or interior room settings. In this way, architects and building owners can see what different configurations will look like before glass samples are ordered or on-site mock-ups are feasible, saving them time and money by expediting the glass specification process.

To determine winners, Glass Magazine submitted nominations to a panel of judges representing all areas of the glass industry, which then selected honorees in each of 15 categories. The awards recognize the best products and glass applications in the commercial, fabrication and retail markets.
