BEIJING, Oct. 15, 2013 – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) hosted a seminar on the processing of TRIVEX® material at the 26th China International Optics Fair 2013 (CIOF 2013). More than 100 eyewear retailers attended the seminar to exchange ideas and experiences about processing techniques for TRIVEX material, along with PPG representatives Frederic Lefranc, PPG global key account director for optical materials; Vivian Waters, PPG director of optical materials, sales and business development, Asia Pacific; and Michael Lu, PPG sales director for optical materials, China.

“PPG launched TRIVEX material in China four years ago following its success in the Americas and Europe,” Lefranc said. “In addition to enhancing our marketing efforts and improving our service to customers, we also wanted to take this opportunity to share the successful experience that TRIVEX material has had in Western markets and to help Chinese customers develop and market eyewear products using TRIVEX material.”

One of the major optical products launched by PPG in China, TRIVEX material is known for its combination of optical performance benefits among both manufacturers and end consumers. One of the lightest prescription lens materials in the world, TRIVEX material offers clear vision along with protection from impact and ultraviolet radiation. PPG shared grinding and cutting techniques for TRIVEX lens processing at the seminar to help Chinese retailers and potential customers improve their work with and sales of lenses made with TRIVEX material.

“We are excited that TRIVEX material has been well received by the market since its launch in China," Waters said. “Going forward, we will continue to host seminars on optical technology as well as other marketing activities to bring PPG’s innovative technologies and products to a wider Chinese audience."

At the end of the event, Waters showcased TRIBRID™ lens material – a new high-index lens material by PPG that combines the properties of TRIVEX material and other high-index materials. Suited to people with higher corrective prescriptions in the +/-3.00 to +/-7.00 diopter range, TRIBRID material features optical clarity, lightweight comfort and vision protection while meeting the aesthetic preference of consumers for a thin lens. TRIBRID lenses are currently available in the Americas and Europe and will become available in China in 2014.
