Adventures In Technology

PPG Adventures in Technology

PPG Industries Foundation awarded a $75,000 pledge to support development of a new “PPG Adventures in Technology” program in the Greater Detroit area. The program engages high school students in a 10-week, hands-on project to design and build a product or re-engineer an existing product, process or system. By teaming with local companies, students learn about the career opportunities available in manufacturing, engineering, information technology, life sciences, finance and marketing.

Adventures in Technology is an industry-focused business, education and community partnership designed to simultaneously:

  • Increase students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
  • Develop students’ STEM knowledge skills and abilities by providing industry-based problem-solving experiences that require applications of STEM education in real world/real time settings
  • Increase the visibility of regional career opportunities in Michigan, especially those in manufacturing, information technology and engineering
“PPG is strongly committed to supporting the communities where its employees work and live,” said Cynthia Niekamp, vice president, automotive coatings, based at PPG’s automotive technology center in Troy, Michigan. “We are proud to support this opportunity for students to foster teamwork, explore a variety of career possibilities and apply classroom knowledge to solve real world problems using science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”
