For nearly 60 years, the PPG Industries Foundation has been reaching out to PPG communities across the nation with grants, outreach programs, relief funds, charitable efforts, educational programs and volunteers.

Recently, the Foundation provided three $1,000 Public Education Leadership Community (PELC) grants to the Wilkinsburg School District for the “Reading is Fundamental” program. These grants will enable the school district to purchase more than 1,000 books and encourage students to continue improving their performance on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) tests.
“This is the third consecutive year our District has met state testing measures, moving us one step closer to our goal to be the #1 urban school district in Pennsylvania,” said Wilkinsburg School District Superintendent Archie D. Perrin, Jr. “We are pleased to be working with the PPG Industries Foundation to continue our success.”
In addition to the check presentation ceremony, students were also invited to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium for a special reading of “Lavi the Lion Finds His Pride.” The story was shared with the students by PPG vice president of human resources, Bud Wise, a graduate of Wilkinsburg’s Turner Elementary School.
The event was held at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, which has a strong focus on education and conservation, and a partnership with PPG.
