PPG sponsors STEM day camp in Indianapolis
STEM Future Leaders is a program designed for youth in sixth grade and above that aims to increase STEM literacy, use of STEM practices, provide leadership and collaboration opportunities, develop an interest in STEM careers, and break-down stereotypes related to STEM.
A member from PPG’s Architectural Coatings business in the United States and Canada (AC USCA) attended the day camp to educate the children on color theory, color wheel, associations, metamerism and examples of STEM and PPG along with some color optical illusions.
“The children were very engaged and really enjoyed the presentation and hands on experiences,” said Ruthanne Hanlon, color & design manager, AC USCA. “It was a wonderful experience to spend time with these future STEM leaders and I’m grateful PPG had the opportunity to be involved and give back to such a deserving organization.”
After Hanlon’s presentation, the children had the opportunity to mix primary colors to create secondary colors, then used those to create tertiary before adding tint, tone and/or shade to create their own color. After their color was created, they then named their color and used it to paint wooden picture frames to take home and share their color with others.
