PPG supports STEM education in Denmark

PPG’s commitment to STEM education continues to thrive in the United Kingdom and Denmark, most recently through initiatives that are inspiring students and teachers to explore STEM to boost their learning, creativity and imagination.

In Denmark, 60 students recently spent the day at our architectural coatings plant in Soborg as part of the popular Science Day. During this event, businesses, schools, libraries, museums and other organizations opened their doors to students to shine a spotlight on STEM-related career paths. At our Soborg site, students jumped right in, engaging in hands-on workshops that introduced them to unexpected STEM opportunities in coatings manufacturing, production and even sustainability.

“We love to support projects like these that open children's eyes and make them curious about future possibilities, especially those within STEM subjects such as robotics and research,” said Torben Beck, PPG general manager, Denmark.

PPG also contributed a community engagement grant of $14,000 (100,000 Danish kroner) to Naturvidenskabernes Hus, a nonprofit group that supports STEM education in Denmark and organizes Science Day. As part of this partnership, PPG will participate in the 2024 Science Marathon, a competition among schools that is designed to fuel young students’ interest and passion in science.  PPG’s commitment to STEM education continues to thrive in the United Kingdom and Denmark, most recently through initiatives that are inspiring students and teachers to explore STEM to boost their learning, creativity and imagination.

Similarly, PPG in the United Kingdom, has partnered with STEM Learning, a leading provider of professional development courses for teachers. With support from a $49,300 (£40,000) PPG community engagement grant, nearly 60 educators across the UK will be trained in the latest STEM teaching methods, including education on environmental sustainability. They will also receive the support they need to deliver high-quality STEM education. The partnership combines regional support for schools in Birstall, UK, and national support for young people across country. According to Sarah Mullaney, senior communications associate, UK & Ireland, it also represents PPG’s commitment to real change for young people in STEM education.

“Through our partnership with STEM Learning and its ENTHUSE program, we aim to ignite the spark of curiosity and passion for STEM subjects in young minds, paving the way for future generations of scientists, engineers, and innovators,” she said.
