The last Little Tavern restaurant, an iconic chain known for their small burgers and small cottage-style buildings, closed in 2008. But one former location in Washington, D.C., has been brought back to its original glory, thanks in part of PPG's architectural metal coatings.
Preserving History in Style: PPG Coatings Safeguard and Beautify Little Tavern

Because the diminutive English cottage-inspired building on Morse Street NE has a historic preservation designation, the developer was required to fulfill two obligations: restore it to Little Tavern's distinctive design and incorporate it into a new mixed use residential and retail development as part of an urban renewal project.
Stuart Dean , a nationally renowned architectural restoration company, lead the project, with help from PPG for architectural finishes and coatings expertise. The two companies have collaborated on numerous projects over the past three decades.
But recreating Little Tavern’s signature white porcelain façade and green gabled roof on a neglected building long past its prime posed numerous challenges.
Not only had the previous owner painted the entire exterior beige, but most of the steel panels were dented, rusted and deteriorated, some beyond repair. Stuart Dean made the repairs when possible and had new parts fabricated to fill in the gaps.

Once the structure was restored, PPG was tasked with creating a custom-blended, high-gloss PPG CORAFLON® ADS field-applied coatings to not only protect it from weather and UV rays, but perfectly match Little Tavern’s signature aesthetics with the right colors, textures and sheen.
