PPG offers excimer technologies as part of the Raycron® family of ultraviolet (UV) and electron beam-curable solutions. Excimer curing is a specialized UV process that creates ultramatte, soft-touch surfaces with a distinctive premium feel.
Excimer technology is widely used in consumer electronics—including laptops, keyboards, notebooks and mobile phones—as well as wood, flooring, and furniture applications.
Available in both waterborne and solventborne formulations, PPG excimer coatings are cured using specialized UV light, enabling faster processing than many conventional coating technologies while supporting a range of manufacturing and application requirements.
Beyond their unique appearance and feel, PPG excimer UV coatings provide excellent resistance to fingerprints and smudges, outstanding durability against scratches, abrasion, and wear, and strong color stability with improved resistance to yellowing.
The curing process creates a microscopically textured surface that efficiently diffuses light, producing an exceptionally matte finish. Unlike traditional matte coatings, this effect is achieved through surface structure rather than high levels of flattening additives.
