While the hockey season is just beginning, PPG and the PITTSBURGH PENGUINS® used this offseason to get involved within the Pittsburgh community. On July 21, over 30 volunteers from PPG and the Penguins front office teamed up to paint and beautify Pittsburgh Milliones University Prep with murals that tell the stories of local Hill District history and culture.

Penguins alumni Bryan Trottier and Phil Bourque also picked up some brushes and joined the COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® initiative. PPG deemed the month of July as the Colorful Communities “New Paint for a New Start" campaign to protect and beautify schools around the world before the school year begins, completing more than 30 projects.
Also, on the calendar this offseason was the second annual 'Science at Play' event on July 26. More than 400 fans attended the event at PPG PAINTS ARENA® in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. to interact with Penguins' partner booths including multiple from PPG and Carnegie Science Center. Each booth had a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)-focused interactive workshop for participants to learn from and engage with. PPG Science Education Council members demonstrated the technology behind PPG's 3-D printing capabilities, in addition to showing off some thermochromic temperature indicating hockey pucks.
PPG also brought out a Plinko board and game-used hockey net for some extra fun for attendees. Children aged 5-12 received a PPG lab coat to help them channel their inner scientist, as well as a passport to get stamped at each booth. Participants that collected all stamps earned prize. After collecting their prizes, students and their families made their way to their seats to watch a special show from Carnegie Science Center's Science on the Roda 'Science of Hockey' program, taking place on the arena floor.
