PPG Coatings Services’ Fort Wayne, Indiana facility was established in 1986. It offers electrocoat (e-coat) services and is the only facility in North America that applies polyurea-based topcoat. Regarded as an industry leader in domestic and overseas markets, the plant now serves an expanded roster of customers in the automotive, commercial, agriculture and heavy truck markets.

Capabilities:

Offering high-volume, quick-output automotive e-coat and polyurea topcoats, the Fort Wayne plant is equipped with an operating system (COS) that ensures consistent and standardized operating processes.

The facility’s duplex pretreatment regimen enables operation of a mixed-metal line, coating aluminum, galvanized, cold roll steel and castings, which along the plant’s e-coat/polyurea combination, delivers parts with superior corrosion and vibration resistance. Other markets include heavy truck, CAT, Cummins, and agriculture products.

Electrocoating
The Fort Wayne plant operates an 8-stage pretreatment process, prior to electrocoating, that incorporates both impingement and immersion processes to provide superior metal preparation. A window size of 36 x 70 x 110 inches and a coating line equipped with e-coat material—in combination with the duplex pretreatment system—allows the plant to process medium to large components assembled from many metal types.

Polyurea Topcoat
Our plant features two advanced topcoat lines equipped with robotic technology for precise, consistent polyurea application in enclosed booths. With ambient temperature curing, each cycle completes in just 20 minutes from load to unload, ensuring high production efficiency. One line handles small to medium parts up to 45" x 30" x 56", while the second offers UV-resistant, corrosion-protective polyurea with a textured finish for visible surfaces, accommodating parts up to 36" x 70" x 110"

Environmentally Friendly

The Fort Wayne plant facility utilizes “heavy-metal-free” cathodic epoxy electrocoat material with low VOC and HAPS content, and polyurea topcoat materials that are environmentally friendly. A state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system assures compliance with all environmental regulations.

Accountability

The plant is equipped with the Materials Inventory Tracking System (MITS2), which provides immediate “real time” data on the status of parts being coated. In addition, the facility offers full EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) capabilities.
