PPG Coatings Services’ Portland, Tennessee plant is a high-volume multi-metal electrocoat (e-coat) and powder coat service provider. The facility’s e-coat and powder-coat systems are built to operate independently, while offering the flexibility to apply a base e-coat layer beneath a powder topcoat.  

Each paint line has its own 8-stage duplex pretreatment system, which provides corrosion resistance meeting most domestic and international OEM paint specifications. The plant’s specialties range from high-volume bracketry to large structural components such as roofs and trailer hitches. Label or foam application and light assembly are among the value-added services available.

Electrocoating
The Portland facility’s monorail e-coat line has a part window size of 30” x 70” x 10” and can accommodate up to 108” in length. The 8-stage duplex pretreatment size is capable of processing a wide variety of substrates, and the e-coat line is equipped to apply a wide range of film-build thicknesses to meet an expanded range of OEM requirements.

The Portland plant’s powder coat line possesses the same flexibility as the e-coat line, including a common pretreatment chemistry, enabling it to meet most OEM coatings requirements. The Nordson electrostatic powder-coat booth has a window size of 28 x 72 x 110 inches.

Environmentally Friendly

The Portland facility utilizes “heavy-metal-free” cathodic epoxy electrocoat material with low VOCs and HAPS content and powder topcoat materials that are environmentally friendly. A state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system assures compliance with all environmental regulations.

The plant is equipped with the Materials Inventory Tracking System (MITS2), which provides immediate “real time” data on the status of parts being coated.
