At Posidonia 2026, PPG announced a collaboration with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), a leading global classification society, to support vessel-specific evaluation of the performance impact of low-friction coating technologies on vessel efficiency.
ABS plays a critical role in validating safety, compliance and operational performance across the marine industry. Through this collaboration, ABS may conduct vessel-specific efficiency improvement analysis to help quantify performance impacts associated with next-generation hull coatings, supporting shipowners navigating increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
At the center of the collaboration is PPG SIGMAGLIDE® 2390, a biocide-free, silicone-based fouling-release coating designed to improve vessel performance.
PPG SIGMAGLIDE® 2390, combined with PPG’s advanced electrostatic application process, creates an ultra-smooth surface that may support compliance with key IMO regulations, including EEXI, EEDI and CII, while enhancing overall operational efficiency.
By combining ABS’ deep technical knowledge with PPG’s innovative coating technologies, the collaboration is intended to support vessel-specific analysis that can help shipowners reduce environmental impact while optimizing performance.
