PPG introduces PPG SIGMARINE ONE 648 versatile gloss topcoat for onboard maintenance

PPG has introduced PPG SIGMARINE ONE 648, a new high-gloss, one-component topcoat designed to simplify onboard maintenance and above-water vessel applications. The latest addition to the PPG SIGMARINE portfolio delivers excellent corrosion and abrasion protection while helping vessel operators maintain productivity throughout the service life of their vessels.

Designed for ease of use, PPG SIGMARINE ONE 648 eliminated the need for mixing, reducing application complexity and minimizing the risk of errors. This allows for faster turnaround times for crews and shipyards while supporting consistent application results. The coating is suitable for use across multiple vessel areas, including superstructures, topsides, interiors, decks and deck equipment.

The solution features a higher solids formulation* that contributes to safer working environments for crews. It is compatible with conventional primers, including PPG SIGMARINE 28, and is approved by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) for low flame-spread performance. The coating meets fire safety requirements under the International Maritime Organization’s Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention and the Maritime Equipment Directive (MED).

Global availability

PPG SIGMARINE ONE 648 is available in more than 700 ports worldwide, supporting efficient delivery and consistent availability for vessel maintenance operations. A structured phase-in and phase-out approach has been implemented to ensure a smooth transition and minimize disruption.
