PPG launches new PPG SIGMASHIELD glass flake epoxy coatings for offshore energy sector

PPG launched PPG SIGMASHIELD 950 and PPG SIGMASHIELD 899 GF, two high-performance glass flake epoxy coatings, engineered to deliver exceptional durability, corrosion resistance and sustainability for offshore energy, oil and gas, and infrastructure applications. The new solutions further strengthen PPG’s leadership in protective coatings for demanding marine and industrial environments.

PPG Sigmashield 950 is a solvent-free, high-build epoxy that leverages advanced glass flake technology to provide superior abrasion and impact resistance, along with efficient application. Fully compliant with NORSOK M501:2022 (7A and 7B) standards, it is well suited for projects requiring long-term protection in harsh offshore conditions.

“PPG Sigmashield 950 enables asset owners to extend service life even in the harshest offshore environments,” said Kahina Ouchaou, global product manager, Immersion, PPG Protective and Marine Coatings. “Its solvent-free formulation and reinforced glass flake barrier ensure long-term protection while supporting customers’ sustainability and safety goals.”

Key benefits of PPG Sigmashield 950:

  • Robust, heavy-duty protection: Excellent corrosion, water and abrasion resistance
  • Multipurpose, easy to apply: Recommended for offshore environments, especially suitable in areas where high mechanical strength is required, like splash or tidal zones
  • Sustainably advantaged: Low-VOC and solvent-free formulations

PPG Sigmashield 899 GF is a high-solids epoxy reinforced with more than 20% glass flake to deliver outstanding corrosion and abrasion resistance. Designed for direct-to-metal application, it meets NORSOK M501:2022 (7A and 7B) and ISO 24656 standards and is ideal for splash and tidal zones as well as other heavy-duty service areas.

Key benefits of PPG Sigmashield 899 GF:

  • Proven performance: more than 20% glass flake for enhanced corrosion resistance
  • Versatile application: suitable for twin-feed application and shop application, particularly in splash and tidal zones
  • Verified protection: Can be used as a single or multi-coat system in immersed environments up to 1000 μm, meeting NORSOK M501:2022 (7A/7B) and ISO 24656 requirements
