PPG SIGMASHIELD™ 880

ppg-sigmashield-880-abrasion-resistant-multipurpose-epoxy-coating

Abrasion-resistant, surface-tolerant, multipurpose epoxy for severe environments

The PPG Sigmashield™ 880 coating is engineered to deliver exceptional resistance to seawater, corrosion and abrasion. Designed for use in offshore splash zones, the coating has a short dry time and continues to cure after seawater immersion. It is suitable for offshore oil and gas rigs, FPSOs, wind towers, refineries, pipework and other demanding power generation applications.

This high-solids, polyamine adduct-cured epoxy coating features exceptional durability to withstand transportation and installation procedures at power generation facilities. It helps streamline fabrication and support tight construction timelines to help get assets online faster.

Ideal for new construction and maintenance

As a single-coat system, PPG Sigmashield™ 880 speeds up the coating process to minimize downtime. It can be applied to damp- or wet-blast clean substrates and existing epoxy coating systems, saving time and costs associated with surface preparation. It offers an extended recoat window and a high film thickness that can be achieved in only one coat. PPG Sigmashield™ 880 has short dry-to-touch times and can be applied to substrates at a wide range of temperatures from 23°F (-5°C) up to 120°F (48°C).

Extended service life for power generation

PPG Sigmashield™ 880 prolongs service life and protects assets in some of the world's most severe environments. It is resistant to well-designed cathodic protection systems for long-term resistance to seawater and corrosion. Even at high film thicknesses in complex structures, the coating displays strong crack and sag resistance to reduce maintenance requirements and deliver reliable performance.

Chemical resistance for splashes and spills

PPG Sigmashield™ 880 exhibits good chemical resistance with splash and spill resistance to the following materials:

  • Ethanol
  • Butanol
  • Propanol
  • 5% Potassium Hydroxide
  • 5% Sodium Hydroxide
  • 10% Sodium Chloride
  • 10% Ammonia Solution

Tested and trusted

PPG Sigmashield™ 880 has a proven track record of protecting assets in harsh service environments since its introduction in 2012. PPG rigorously tests its coatings in internal and external laboratories to adhere to internationally recognized standards.

PPG Sigmashield™ 880 complies with the following international standards:

  • NORSOK M501 Revision 5 System 7
  • ISO 12944-6 C5M High
  • ISO 12944-6 Im3 High (including hydrojetted substrate)

It also outperforms other coatings in key ASTM and ISO performance tests.
