PPG PHENGUARD® 985 epoxy tank lining

ppg-phenguard-985-novolac-phenolic-epoxy-tank lining

Premium phenolic epoxy tank lining with expanded chemical resistance

PPG Phenguard® 985 applies a patent-pending formulation to deliver extremely high chemical resistance for a wide variety of aggressive cargoes. It is suitable for onshore and offshore tank applications, including hydrocarbons, biofuels, chemicals, process water and food products.

It offers a higher temperature resistance for feedstocks and oils that contain fatty acids that require hot storage to reduce viscosity. With its robust formulation, it provides a long asset life in the most demanding tank environments, from Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) assets to petrochemical facilities.

Expanded cargo resistance and temperature window

PPG Phenguard® 985 delivers outstanding chemical resistance to thousands of chemicals. It also offers protection from over 300 different cargoes that contain fatty acids such as used cooking oils that are utilized as feedstock for biofuels. PPG Phenguard® 985 enables an extended temperature window for fatty acid distillates and edible oils, from 60°C/140°F for storage up to 75°C/167°F for loading and unloading operations.

Two or three coat application options

The high DFT tolerance of PPG Phenguard® 985 allows owners, operators and their painting contractors the flexibility to apply either two or three coats.

For tanks specifying a two-coat solution up to 160µm/6.3 mils, tank owners can benefit from a higher dry film thickness allowance of readings up to 800µm/31.4 mils in complex areas due to over-application. This provides opportunities for time and cost savings compared to conventional three-coat systems.

Supporting safety and sustainability

PPG supports customers with products that promote workplace safety, reduce environmental impact and advance sustainability goals. Substances of concern have been reduced or removed without compromising the performance of PPG Phenguard® 985, such as reducing crystalline silica in the filler package.

The high temperature tolerance of PPG Phenguard® 985 also supports the expanding biofuels feedstock sector which uses recycled vegetable oils to produce environmentally friendly fuels. Its formulation is ideal for the elevated temperatures that these energy sources typically require during storage.
