PPG donated almost 1,300 school supply kits for vulnerable students in some of the locations where the company does business.
PPG helps Brazil students via school supply donations
"We are so proud to provide school kits for this huge number of students,” said Raquel Klemz, leader, Communications, Latin America South (LAS), whose team led the initiative. “During some COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® projects, we noticed that many students didn't have enough school supplies. This donation was a method of contributing to education in our communities in a different way.”
The non-profits that received the PPG donation include Geempa, an organization focused on education projects, and SOFIC, a community philanthropic society that fosters social, economic, cultural and human development. Geempa and SOFIC distributed the kits to 16 organizations, which, in turn, redistributed them to the students.
PPG’s donations benefited students in Sumaré, Gravataí and Porto Alegre.
The kits contained a variety of supplies, including a backpack, folder, notebook, an eraser, pens and colored pencils. Students received them just in time for the start of Brazil’s school year, which began early February. Some of the children receiving the supplies now own colored pencils – and the other materials – for the first time in their lives.
PPG recently received a video from Geempa in which one of the recipients said to his mother: "I love all of this. It's all for real!"
