Over the past few months, PPG employee volunteers have been dedicated to enhancing classrooms and learning spaces through the COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® program’s New Paint for a New Start initiative. As these vibrant school transformations take place, employee volunteers worldwide continue to beautify additional important places in our communities.
Revitalizing spaces, serving others with COLORFUL COMMUNITIES projects
With each new Colorful Communities project, the impact of the new colors and revitalized spaces have been felt by the organizations and the people they serve.
At the Veterans Community project, Michele Orpin, director of development said, “The work from the volunteers now offers a calming, updated atmosphere for all Veterans entering the building. From the beginning planning stages of the painting to the completed painted areas, the PPG team were dedicated to making sure everything went smoothly. PPG is a prime example of showing the community what it truly means to be a partner helping those less fortunate.”

United States and Canada
In Kansas City, Missouri, over 30 PPG employee volunteers from PPG’s Kansas City Protective and Marine Coatings (PMC) production facility created a colorful transformation at Veterans Community Project.
Painting the facility’s front lobby, entry, reception area and conference room, the project aimed to create a safe, comforting place where nearly 400 veterans visit each month for food and hygiene kits, employment support, emergency assistance, counseling and housing referrals, and case management. The organization also includes a village of tiny homes, where veterans receive support to transition to permanent housing.
“We were proud to support our local veterans who have served our nation. Our volunteers hoped to provide a beautiful space where Veterans Community Project will continue to transform lives,” Nicole Lafargue, administrative assistant, PPG Kansas City, and project organizer. “We were able to use color and fresh paint to create a positive environment where veterans can feel supported.”
Europe, Middle East, Africa, French Overseas and Suriname
More than 20 employee volunteers picked up their paint brushes to participate in a Colorful Communities project to create two murals that convey a message about diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as sustainability as part of QUA - Quattordio Urban Art, a street art festival in Quattordio, Italy. PPG was also the main partner of the whole festival donating more than 300 liters of SIGMA COATINGS™ paint by PPG to create two murals and to support preparation phase for the other murals created by muralists during the QUA. Over the course of three volunteering days, more than 60 PPG volunteers from packaging site in Bodelshausen, Germany helped with gardening, and renewed the café and internal and external entry area at KBF residential house, a local housing and day center dedicated to adults with disabilities. The residents of KBF also participated in workshop with our employees and their art was displayed on the newly painted walls.
Meanwhile, with the Municipality of Rolle, more than 25 volunteers from our European headquarters in Rolle, Switzerland and from France redecorated a municipality building and the surrounding fence with SEIGNEURIE™ paints by PPG including Garnotec Aero and Liswood Aqua. With supervision of a local artist, they created two stunning murals focused on the biodiversity of Lake Geneva. SEE a video on this project.
