PPG TESLIN® ENVOS™ Substrate

Trusted performance in a more natural form

PPG TESLIN® ENVOS™ substrate is a synthetic paper designed to help converters, brands and government programs reduce material-related carbon footprint without compromising the performance of standard-grade PPG TESLIN® substrate.

Developed with 30% bio-based content calculated using ASTM D6866 and 100% recycled filler calculated using ISO 14021, PPG Teslin Envos substrate delivers up to a 25% reduction in carbon footprint* compared to standard-grade Teslin SP1000 substrate while providing enhanced brightness, durability and print performance.

Formulated with the same unique microporous technology that makes PPG Teslin substrate known for durability, printability, lamination strength, adhesion and built-in security, PPG Teslin Envos substrate  can support customers’ sustainability objectives with no process adjustments for standard Teslin substrate users.

Features and Benefits

Because of its microporous structure and next-generation formulation, PPG Teslin Envos substrate provides the following advantages for secure credentials, cards, labels and specialty print applications:

Reduced Carbon Footprint

  • Made with 30% bio-based content and 100% recycled content in its filler component calculated using ISO 14021
  • Provides up to a 25% reduction in carbon footprint* compared to standard-grade PPG Teslin SP1000 substrate
  • Manufactured at a facility where PPG applies purchased renewable electricity credits, contributing to PPG's Scope 2 emissions reduction goals.
  • Trusted Performance
  • Delivers enhanced tear resistance, puncture resistance, tensile strength and flexibility.
  • Can withstand up to 22 pounds of pulling force per inch of width compared to 16 pounds per inch with standard-grade PPG Teslin substrate.
  • Maintains the same ease of printing and converting advantages of standard PPG Teslin substrate.
  • Compatible with multiple print technologies, such as offset, flexographic and digital platforms including laser/electrographic, inkjet and thermal transfer printing. It also functions well with gravure, screen, intaglio, split fountain, micro-printing and more.

Enhanced Optical Brightness

  • Formulated to deliver enhanced whiteness for a bright, premium-looking material
  • Helps colors appear vibrant and graphics stand out
  • Supports sharp text, crisp images and high-quality graphic reproduction

Built-In Security

  • Locks in inks and toners for long-lasting printed information
  • Forms a strong mechanical bond with laminates
  • Provides tamper-evident performance by showing visible, permanent tearing or distortion when altered
  • Absorbs static electricity and cushions embedded microchips and antennas in RFID, passport and secure credential applications

*Based on a PPG cradle-to-gate product carbon footprint comparison between PPG Teslin Envos substrate and PPG Teslin SP1000 substrate (kg CO2e/kg). The analysis uses primary supplier and PPG manufacturing data as well as secondary life cycle inventory data and was conducted in a manner substantially consistent with ISO 14040, ISO 14044 and ISO 14067.

Typical Applications

  • Government IDs, passports and secure credentials
  • Healthcare, financial and loyalty cards
  • Durable labels, specialty labels and RFID labels
  • Track-and-trace, supply chain and identification labels
  • Premium graphics and specialty print applications where durability, print quality and long-term performance are critical
