Single-coat system for tank roof maintenance

PPG Sigmashield™ 880 is an abrasion-resistant, multipurpose epoxy designed for application in the world's most challenging environments. As part of our high-performance tank exterior coating systems, it provides long-lasting protection in a single-coat system.

With a surface-tolerant formulation, it reduces time and costs associated with surface preparation. The coating continues to cure even when exposed to water, providing greater application efficiency for various environmental conditions. It is user-friendly for applicators and offers short dry-to-touch times for rapid return-to-service.

High film build in a single coat

For floating tank roofs, traditional two or three coat systems can be affected by adverse weather conditions. This can disrupt the project schedule and cause delays, especially when standing water on the roof must be removed between coats. Early exposure to rain can also lead to adhesion problems for subsequent coats.

PPG Sigmashield™ 880 can be applied in a single coat to flat plates, reducing application costs and minimizing down time. It can also be applied onto substrates with temperatures of 23°F (-5°C) up to 120°F (48°C), making it an ideal choice for humid, coastal environments.

Surface tolerant

Application is simplified by the coating's high surface tolerance. It is suitable for wet blast or ultra-high-pressure water (UHPWW) substrates and can be applied over sound existing epoxy coating systems. Its extended recoat window supports maximum application flexibility.

Long service life

PPG Sigmashield™ 880 delivers excellent resistance to abrasion, impact and seawater which lowers maintenance costs and prolongs service life. It provides strong crack and sag resistance at high film thicknesses to protect coating integrity.

Tested to international standards

PPG Sigmashield™ 880 has been rigorously tested by both internal and external testing laboratories, and complies with the following international standards:

  • NORSOK M501 Revision 5 System 7
  • ISO 12944-6 C5M High
  • ISO 12944-6 IM3 High (Including hydrojetted substrate)
