PPG has donated scholarship money for students in the New Energy Specialty Class, a major established by Nankai University in Tianjin, China.
PPG awards first ‘New Energy’ scholarships at Nankai University
“We hope this will encourage the outstanding students who will help to construct the era of new energy,” said Cathy Yan, senior director, Corporate and Government Affairs, Asia Pacific (AP). “We aim to recognize and encourage these students to pursue breakthroughs in fields such as energy storage, mobility and new materials.”

The scholarships were awarded at a ceremony during which the New Energy students presented their research achievements and judges selected first-, second- and third- prize winners.
The PPG scholarship will benefit all 57 New Energy students. They also will benefit from the “PPG Green Channel,” through which students are exempted from a resume-screening process when applying to interview for a PPG internship or formal position during campus recruitment.
The University has been recruiting students for its New Energy Specialty Class since 2019. It will recruit about 20 students every year.
PPG has provided scholarships to students at Nankai University since 2016. The new scholarship was proposed by the company’s Science and Technology (S&T) team in the AP region.
“PPG is deeply involved in new-energy research and application – and all manner of sustainable development,” said Rebecca Han, business partner, Human Resources, Global S&T. “It is only natural that we would want to help to cultivate the students who will bring their talents to scientific innovation in this field.”
